I recently upgraded my camera equipment, which meant that I also needed to upgrade the bag in which I carry my equipment, and decided that I might as well do a good job and buy something that could also hold my laptop and various accessories. I did my research on the Internet and also spoke to friends who use similar cameras, and more than one of them recommended the Case Logic SLRC-206 SLR Camera and 15.4-Inch Laptop Backpack.
This being so, I immediately got onto the Internet again that night and looked where I could find more information and possibly also purchase this bag. There is a lot of information about this backpack on the web, and the average price seemed to be around $120, which was a bit more than my budget could handle, but I was fortunate enough to find it for a 45% discount offered by Amazon.com and ended up only paying $65.70 for it. What a bonus!
What You Should Look For
I firmly believe in doing thorough research when purchasing something, especially online, and am very fussy about which features the product should have, especially when it comes to transporting something as valuable and sensitive as my cameras and laptop. The following are some of the features which I feel one should look for in a camera/laptop bag:
- Sufficient space to hold all necessary items
- A customizable interior
- Good shock protection
- Easy access to various components
- Additional straps to tie stuff down
- Rugged construction
The Case Logic SLRC-206 SLR Camera and 15.4-Inch Laptop Backpack offers all of the above and a lot more besides, and the great price from Amazon clinched the deal for me.
The camera department of this rugged backpack is designed to hold most SLR cameras with the zoom lens still attached, as well as additional accessories. This compartment contains an innovative patent-pending hammock system made from neoprene, which suspends the camera and protects it from any knocks the bag may take. I also love that the interior lid of this compartment is lined with memory foam which protects the LCD screen.
The padded and contoured dividers can be moved around to suit whatever I want to carry on the day, and reattached to the flexible interior walls with hook-and-loop strips, and added to that there are various accessory pockets in which I can place my batteries, lens filters, cables, memory cards, film and various other accessories.
It is important that I take my laptop with me when I attend the swimming galas; it allows me to download some of the photographs continuously and even let some of the competitors see them between swims and place immediate orders. The padded laptop compartment in the Case Logic SLRC-206 easily and comfortably takes my 15″ laptop, and I like the fact that it is padded on all sides, including on top where it zips, and is positioned against my back.
There is also an industrial strength hook-and-loop strap attachment system on the side of the backpack that is great for attaching my tripod.
This backpack is made with very good quality heavy-gauge nylon and padded air-mesh on the exterior, and I love the rigid, high-density foam, water-resistant molded EVA base that allows me to set the backpack down and be assured that it will stand upright. This is extremely important to me as I do a lot of photography of swimming galas, and am often right at the edge of the pool photographing swimmers and divers, and cannot afford for my equipment to get wet or perhaps fall over and into the pool.
I have hiked some distance with this backpack and found that the padded shoulder straps allow me to have a very comfortable hike even when the backpack is loaded with various cameras and my laptop, which makes it rather heavy.
What Do Others Think?
After reading what the manufacturers had to say about the backpack I wanted to hear what those who have already bought and used it thought, so I did some snooping on the Internet to see what the reviews said. Here are some of the comments that I found:
- “This is a very well thought out bag that really stands out from others in its class. “
- “The organizational possibilities are endless with this pack. “
- “I also had my 20-year-old Minolta camera in there, and the design of the hammock and the way the padding angled around the camera body gave it a very secure fit. “
- “I have taken this pack with me on a trek through the snow on one occasion. I had no problem or hesitation setting it down in the snow. The bottom is very durable and waterproof, and the pack does not easily tip over. “
Are There Customer Complaints?
I visited a number of sites that carry the Case Logic SLRC-206 SLR Camera and 15.4-Inch Laptop Backpack to see if there were any negative reports, and after trolling through four or five sites the only “complaint” that I found was about the bag not suiting the person because he was “rather large” as he put it.
I decided that this was definitely the bag for me, and I am not sorry for my decision, I love it.

Where Can You Buy the Camera and Laptop Backpack?
I don’t know about you, but even though there are many retailers at which I could buy this backpack, my vote goes for the discounted price from Amazon.
