Large Laptop Computer Backpacks - Do you carry your life on your back?

You're late...and your flight is boarding. You have still haven't checked in your overnight bag. You rush along with your laptop case hanging by the tips of your fingers, bouncing off your side. Okay, you admit it. You need a laptop backpack in the worst way.

Why You Need a Large Laptop Backpack?

Don't settle for a regular size case. In the long term it will be frustrating for you and a waste of money. If you are like many "urban warriors" you do indeed carry your "life" around with you. And if you do any sort of overnight travel, a large laptop backpack is a must.

Not really, you think, "I just want a backpack for my laptop and to put a cell phone in." Oh, yes, then there's your MP3 player, snacks, paperback and don't forget the cables, cords, batteries and phone charger.

What about your work files, personal notes, wallet, keys, digital camera and a of course a pen or pencil or two? And you haven't even packed your undies, yet! Who knew? A large laptop backpack would solve a lot of your storage problems but how do you choose one?

What to Look For in a Large Laptop Backpack

Proper Laptop Compartment - Make sure you measure the depth of your laptop with the lid closed, along the side and back. Make sure the interior dimensions match. The compartment should be covered in a soft material like velour and lightly padded with an easy to access opening.

Construction - Get a backpack that is well made. Preferably out of a water resistant nylon like ballistic or Condura that is, long lasting and resists scrapes tears and scuffing. Get good padded shoulder straps. You should also consider one with sternum or waist straps if you have a more active lifestyle. Big sturdy zippers with long pulls are also a plus.

Storage room - Get one with lots of compartments and pockets to keep all your gear organized and tucked away. Get one with roomy compartments with zippered tops; since you don't want to be caught pawing through your socks while looking for your mouse!

Wheeled Laptop Backpacks - If you know that you are going to have a full load, you may want make an investment in a wheeled laptop backpack. Wheeled laptop backpacks have small wheels on their bottoms with a metal handle at the top, to pull it along. Things to check on wheeled laptop backpacks are the length of the handle (the longer the better since it reduces heel-kick). The handle should fold away into a low profile. A good set of heavy duty inline skate wheels and solid padded shoulder straps for when you do carry it.

Size matters - If you have a large LCD screen, you can still find several brands of rolling backpacks that fit a 17" screen laptop. Now these large laptop backpacks have room to spare and you may have to restrict yourself packing everything including the kitchen sink.

But when it's time to move up, don't be afraid to invest in a large laptop backpack. The savings in lost time and frustration will be worth it.
